Smart Energy - A Systems Approach to Achieving Stability and Security in the Electricity System

Abstract of the seminar: The U.S. Power System is undergoing a transformation that includes the addition of new sensors,  Communications and control systems that will enable more reliable and secure operation with increased efficiency in generation, transmission/distribution and consumption. In this talk we will review the current situation, discuss challenges and opportunities for modernizing the electricity system, and present results of several ongoing research projects. 

About the Speaker: Dr. Kenneth A Loparo is currently a Nord Professor of Engineering and Chair of EECS Department at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Loparo is a Fellow of the IEEE and has received numerous awards including the Sigma Xi Research Award for contributions to stochastic control, the John S. Diekoff Award for Distinguished Graduate Teaching, the Tau Beta Pi Outstanding Engineering and Science Professor Award, the Undergraduate Teaching Excellence Award and the Carl F. Wittke Award.
