How to Write a Paper for Journals and Navigate the Review Process
The careers of many people depends on their success in writing and getting their papers published. More important, the scientific process requires that scientific findings be published so that other researchers may build on your ideas or refute your findings. If authors are not able to publish their papers, then their careers are hurt and scientific progress slows and stops. Therefore, it is critical that researchers and engineers understand the process of writing and getting published their papers in reputable and cited journals and scientific conferences. However, often, authors’ papers are rejected because they did not understand what reviewers, Associate Editors, and Editors are looking for in a paper, even if the technical results are good.
This presentation will cover the steps that an author should take to increase the acceptance rate of their papers in journals and conference. It will cover the reasons most papers are rejected and how an author should organize their paper to avoid those reasons. Lastly, it will present what steps you should take if your paper is rejected to get it published in the same journal or in a different journal.

In this talk, a limit management control arrangement using min-max logic is discussed. The min-max arrangement is commonly used in aeronautical gas turbine engines. The properties and shortcomings of the min-max logic are discussed and a new approach is proposed involving sliding mode controllers. The proposed control technique has guaranteed stability and does not introduce any conservativeness associated with constraint enforcement, representing a significant improvement over existing methods. The validity of the proposed technique is demonstrated with high-fidelity nonlinear engine simulations using NASA's CMAPSS package.

As embedded devices become more sophisticated the possibility of hacking and other nefarious actions become more possible. It is estimated that there will be between 15 and 20 billion devices (small embedded devices) with a $900 Billion USD market, which is growing twice as fast as the PC market. Accordingly, this joint meeting of FENEO and IEEE Cleveland Computer Society will cover two topics in this broad area of embedded device security.
In the area of programmable hardware a representative of Actel, a FPGA manufacturer will be presenting security in programmable logic. In the area of embedded firmware security Mocana will be discussing security standards.

As NASA considers reestablishing a human presence on the moon and later sending humans to Mars, power systems will be needed to meet the electrical demands of habitats, rovers, science equipment, and resource utilization facilities. Power requirements are expected to range from 10’s of kilowatts for the early emplacement phase to 100’s of kilowatts for the later operations phase. Technology options include photovoltaic arrays, batteries, fuel cells, radioisotope power systems, and fission power systems.

Wind Energy Technology and Its Adoption by Industry and the Public - presented by Dr. Larry A. Viterna, Technical Director, Great Lakes Energy Institute at Case Western Reserve University.
Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) applications in RF and microwave electronics are on the verge of revolutionizing wireless communications. In this tutorial we discuss the fundamentals of this exciting technology, potential pitfalls to be encountered, and typical applications where MEMS is expected to make the greatest impact in RF/microwave circuits and systems. In particular, the ability of MEMS’ fabrication techniques to enhance the performance of passive components, e.g., capacitors, inductors, transmission lines, and switches, is addressed, and a number of potential wireless system opportunities, namely, wireless transceivers, routing networks, and tracking antennas for mobile multimedia communications, awaiting the maturation of MEMS, are discussed.
This presentation covers the principles of measuring high-frequency electrical components with Network Analyzers. You will learn what kinds of measurements are made with Network Analyzers, and how they allow you to characterize your device. The session starts with the concept of reflection and transmission and the associated terminology such as VSWR, reflection Coefficient and S-parameters. RF fundamentals of magnitude and phase, transmission lines and Fourier Analysis will briefly be discussed. The next section covers all the major components in a network analyzer, including the advantages and limitations of different hardware approaches. Error modeling, accuracy enhancement, and various calibration techniques will then be presented.
