Since the first Honda Insight owner took delivery in 1999, U.S. annual Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) sales have risen to over 300k vehicles, a share representing more than 1.5% of new vehicle sales nationwide. Lithium ion battery markets now exceed $10B.

Technologists naturally follow trends in areas such as batteries and power conversion, but often find it harder to keep abreast of systemic influences in economic, political, and public policy domains. Yet these systemic issues play an important role in determining which development activities gain support and which designs win favor and succeed in the markets. Marketing professionals and technologists alike are well advised to consider interactions with use taxation, energy infrastructure, environmental impact, transportation infrastructure, raw materials, component supply chains, safety, shipping, distribution, etc., as they develop alternative transportation technologies such as the Electric Vehicle (EV).

Mr. Scheucher develops next generation scalable, intelligent energy systems in his capacity as President and Chief Engineer at Modtech Corp. in Willoughby, Ohio. Having recently developed the world’s first lithium ion cordless tool platform, Modtech is committed to developing an advanced energy technology base in Northeast Ohio and is actively partnering with likeminded organizations in the region.

This presentation will address questions such as, “what promise does the EV hold for the future of transportation”, “what attributes must an EV possess to deliver its full potential”, and “what synergies can be leveraged” from a technical standpoint with an eye toward the influences of the aforementioned systemic factors.

The presentation will include live demonstration of a web manageable scalable lithium ion energy platform supporting video surveillance, wireless communications, and e-Bike applications.
